It is reported that a crisis has arisen between the Minister in charge of the subject and the Secretary of the Ministry regarding the extension of the service term of the Director General of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat by one year.
While Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody was abroad, the Secretary had granted a one-year service extension to H.P. Niroshan, who was acting as the Director General of the Reforms Secretariat, without informing him.
However, upon his return to the island, the Energy Minister, who came to know about it, has cancelled the appointment with immediate effect. The Minister has informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy in writing that he refuses to grant such a service extension without his consent.
