Politicizing Suvaseriya

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dr. Harsha de Silva expressed strong opposition in Parliament against the change of the name and colors of the Suvaseriya ambulance service in 1990.

He requested the authorities not to politicize and destroy this valuable service.

The MP stated that he had introduced the Suvasariya Act No. 18/19 of 2018 to Parliament on 21 June 2018. He explained that the specific objective of this Act was to provide free pre-hospital ambulance and emergency care services to any person in the country through a foundation called “Suvasariya 1990”.

“Suvasariya is a 24-hour service that travels 28,000 kilometers a day and takes 1050 patients to hospitals a day. It has provided services to over 2.5 million people in the country today. Today, when a heart attack occurs, everyone is used to talking to Suvasariya with confidence. It is regrettable that a “directive” has been given to change it even when this service is operating so successfully.

“I object to the attempt to remove the name ‘Suwa Sariya’ as per 1990, the attempt to change the colours of the ambulances, and the announcement to ‘put on their colours’, and the attempt to change the official logo for the Suwa Sariya,” said MP Harsha de Silva.
