Police short of 32,000.

The Sri Lanka Police is currently facing a shortage of nearly 32,000 officers, says Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.

The IGP made these comments while participating in a ceremony held this morning (30) to appreciate the contribution of fingerprint officers, criminal analysis officers and forensic photographers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department in solving crimes.

He further said that 2,500 police officers are scheduled to retire this year and another 2,700 officers are scheduled to retire next year, and taking that into consideration, plans have been made to urgently recruit 10,000 new police officers.
