The Acting Inspector General of Police has ordered the assignment of one police officer to each of the more than 1,300 petrol stations islandwide.
This decision was taken following a special request made by the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, Professor Udayanga Hemapala.
Professor Hemapala has emphasized in his letter that the current non-dispensation of fuel in cans and drums could be an obstacle to maintaining public order. In view of this situation, he has pointed out that it is essential to assign one police officer to each petrol station.
