PM says politicians not banned from school functions

The Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya said that there is no law prohibiting politicians from attending school functions, only that the school system should not be used for politics.

She said this in response to a question in Parliament on how government ministers can attend school functions despite the restrictions imposed by the government.

However, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Unit on September 26 stated that the education authorities have been informed to immediately stop inviting politicians to school functions.
