Former minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan has filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court.
He is seeking a ruling from the CID that his fundamental human rights have been violated by the decision of the CID to arrest him and detain him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the abduction and disappearance of the Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University.
The respondents in the petition are Madhava Gunawardena, OIC of the Special Investigation Unit of the CID, Senior Superintendent of Police Imesha Muthumala, Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Minister of Defence and the Attorney General.
