A Galewela Public Health Inspector, who was accused of accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000 from a businessman to renew a trade license, was remanded until March 11 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmalige.
The suspect, Susantha Ratnayake Bandara, was arrested following a complaint filed by a businessman in the Galewela area with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
After his arrest, the suspect was produced before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court on February 15, where he was initially remanded.
Prison officials produced him before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today, where officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption informed the court that further investigations are being conducted into the incident.
The complaint states that the plaintiff requested to renew his trade license for the year 2025, and the public health inspector demanded a bribe to expedite the process.
