Considering the global threat posed by the new COVID-19 variant, the Ministry of Health has increased PCR tests in some hospitals, said Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
Accordingly, hospitals with PCR testing facilities are ready to identify COVID-19 patients, he added.
The Secretary said that the Ministry has also instructed hospitals to increase surveillance of patients receiving treatment or admitted for fever.
Dr. Jasinghe added that Sri Lanka will continue to monitor the situation closely. However, he said that there is no need to impose travel restrictions at this time.
He disclosed this at a press conference held at the Ministry of Health today (28).
