The crisis in issuing passports is continuing to grow, sources in the Immigration and Emigration Department say. Accordingly, the current number of copies will only be sufficient until July next year, the sources further say.
The government is reportedly hoping to appoint a special committee to make recommendations to resolve this issue before it becomes a social problem. The committee should submit a report to the government within two weeks.
A case is currently being heard regarding the manner in which tenders for passports were awarded during the previous government.
The government is of the opinion that the issue should be resolved without any impact on that case, the report says.
