Parliament’s Standing Orders to be amended for women MPs

The Women Parliamentarians’ Forum has proposed to the Speaker that the Standing Orders of Parliament be amended to prevent conduct or statements by MPs that result in verbal abuse or insults to women MPs in the Parliament Chamber.

According to the Parliamentary Communications Division, this request has been submitted with the signatures of members of the forum, including Minister Saroja Savitri Paulraj.

In particular, it states that a trend of verbal abuse targeting women MPs has been observed recently.

The forum emphasizes that this situation is a challenge to the right of women to express their opinions and participate in politics, and that this challenges the sovereignty of the people.
