The strike initiated by trade unions belonging to 5 paramedical professions will continue for the second day today (06), says Chanaka Dharmawickrama, Secretary of the Joint Federation of Paramedics.
The 24-hour strike began at 8 am yesterday (05) and was scheduled to end this morning, but the executive council of the union that met yesterday decided to continue the strike for the second day, he says.
However, the executive council of the Joint Federation of Paramedics that met yesterday decided to continue the strike for 48 consecutive hours.
The strike is being implemented to address issues and demands such as promotions, weekend and holiday allowances, recruitment of graduates, salaries and allowances, disregard of agreements related to retirement conditions and internships.
Meanwhile, yesterday (05), the Minister of Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, said that if they want to discuss the issues, they should first report to work.
Responding to the Minister’s statement, the Joint Federation of Paramedical Professionals stated that they had to resort to their trade union action due to the lack of positive intervention by the current Minister of Health to resolve their issues.
