Pakistan High Commissioner, Major General (retd) Umar Farooq Burki said that Pakistan is exploring the possibility of exporting onion and maize to Sri Lanka. He stated this when he met Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena today at Araliyagaha Mandir.
The High Commissioner apprised the Prime Minister about the measures taken to promote tourism, especially the visits of Buddhist pilgrims to Pakistan.
Accepting Pakistan’s proposal to open Buddhist pilgrimage sites for Sri Lankans, the Prime Minister thanked the Pakistan High Commission for organizing a visit to Pakistan for Buddhist monks, journalists and scholars last year. The High Commissioner said that another such visit will be held in the first half of next year.
The Prime Minister thanked Pakistan for its continued support to Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council and other international conferences. He expressed his gratitude to the Pakistani Ambassador for increasing the Pakistani scholarships offered to Sri Lankan students for higher education.
