The government has decided to urgently import Nadu rice as a solution to the rice shortege in the country.
Accordingly, as a step towards the rice shortage, steps will be taken to import Nadu rice through the S.T.C and the C.W.E, subject to a limit of 70,000 metric tons.
A lengthy discussion has been held between rice importers and top officials of the S.T.C regarding the country’s rice crisis, and discussions have been held to import Nadu rice from India to meet the country’s needs until the upcoming Maha season paddy harvest.
However, President Anura Dissanayake recently said that the country has the required amount of rice within the country and there is no need to import rice.
