Minister of State for Defense Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon says that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Politburo’s decision not to support current President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the presidential election is a political play.
The minister emphasizes that the decision is personal, selfish and disastrous.
The minister said this while participating in the press conference held today (30) under the theme of Jayagamu. It was held at Loris Mawatha, Bambalapitiya.
State Minister for Defense Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, who spoke at the event, also said,
“On the 29th, the political committee of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna met. We got to know that the political committee had taken a decision to present a candidate from Pohottuwa. We are not surprised about that. It was a drama in the Politburo yesterday. In general, we do not believe that there is a democratic decision-making process in the Podujana Peramuna. This decision was a decision made inside the house before the Politburo. We heard about this.
About 30 ministers, state ministers and members of parliament participated in this. We have a problem with the political composition yesterday. Only 18 members of parliament participated in the party which has around 100 members of parliament. There are over 100 members of the provincial council. Only 05 people came. About 300 local government representatives represent. But there were only 05 people there. And we don’t understand about the other people who were there. We don’t know who they are. We don’t bother. How they got there is a problem for us.
We have to equate the decision of the Politburo taken yesterday with the decisions taken to bring the people to Colombo on May 9, 2022 to fight the struggle. That decision is taken without knowledge, understanding and sensitivity about the earth.
