President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Professor I.M. Karunathilaka as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo.
The relevant letter of appointment was handed over to Professor I.M. Karunathilaka by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat today (23).
Professor I.M. Karunathilaka is a pioneer in the field of medical education and holds the distinction of being the first Professor of Medical Education at the University of Colombo.
He has served on the faculty of the University of Colombo since June 2000.
He is a graduate of the University of Colombo and the University of Dundee in Scotland, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Higher Education, United Kingdom, and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.
