Negotiations Fail. We Have to Go on Strike

The promotion of teachers as promised by the government has remained an unresolved issue, said Joseph Starling, Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union.

He said that despite several rounds of discussions with the Prime Minister, the Secretary and several responsible persons in this regard, the government has not yet received a successful response.

As a result, the teachers are deeply disappointed and in a serious crisis, and they are requesting the government to initiate further rounds of discussions, and if there is no successful result, they will take steps to take union action in the future, he stressed.
