Political sources say that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will undergo a major division before the presidential election. A part of that party says that a candidate from their party should be presented for the presidential election, while another part says that they should support the candidacy of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna group, which is friendly to the Rajapaksa family, is standing for a candidate of their party. It is reported that they are ready to propose Namal Rajapaksha as Prasidential candidete . It is reported that this is the reason why Namal Rajapaksa was recently appointed to the post of a national organization of Podujana Peramuna.
But Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, speaking at a central meeting held at the party headquarters the following day, publicly said that Namal Rajapaksa still has time to become the presidential aspirant, and that the support of the party should go to the current president Ranil Wickremesinghe at this time.
Due to this situation, a split in the Podujana Peramuna is certain.
