Namal Rajapakse acquitted in Gowers Corporate case

Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe ordered today (02) to acquit all the defendants, including Parliamentarian Namal Rajapakse, without calling evidence in connection with the Gowers Corporate Company incident. The MP was accused of investing 30 million rupees earned illegally in that company.

Anouncing the verdict, the judge said that the evidence given by the prosecution witnesses was not acceptable to the court and was unreliable and the court was not considering the status of the defendants but only the evidence that could prove the charges filed against them.

Also, the High Court judge who ordered the immediate removal of the foreign travel ban imposed on Prabhat Karunajeevi, the second defendant in the case, and the fourth defendant in the case, who are currently avoiding the court, also ordered the recall of the open warrants issued for the arrest of Prabhat Karunajeevi.
