The Colombo Crimes Division has begun investigations into an allegation that Ranjan Ramanayake has issued hateful statements that are insulting to the Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. Accordingly, it is reported that actor Ranjan Ramanayake was questioned for 2 hours (31st) and his statements were obtained.
The Colombo Crimes Division, which initiated investigations into this allegation made by a civil activist named Namal Kumara, had previously recorded statements from him.
Namal Kumara, who claims to be in possession of audio recordings of statements made by actor Ranjan Ramanayake in a manner that is insulting to the Cardinal, has also requested the President and the Cardinal to conduct an investigation into this matter.
Before the Easter attacks, Senior DIG Nalaka Silva of the Terrorism Investigation Unit was working to arrest Saharan Hashim, who had planned the attacks. At that time, Nalaka Silva was arrested due to a false complaint filed by Namal Kumara regarding an attempt to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena, thus preventing the arrest of Saharan.
