N.P.P to give Rs. 80 lakhs to independent members of the Matugama

The National People’s Power is accused of trying to give Rs. 80 lakhs to independent members of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha.

Addressing a media conference in Matugama, Kasun Munasinghe, who contested and won from independent groups, said that a minister representing the Malima government had come to his house and sought support.

He said that there was a proposal to provide money on a ward basis and to provide political positions. He said that there was a proposal of Rs. 80 lakhs per ward, and that it was proposed to provide candidacy for contesting for the Provincial Council and that in the end the amount of money was further increased.

He said that a second discussion was also held in Colombo in this regard.

However, he said that there was no need to be swayed by money and that if there was such a need, he would take that decision before then and that he had decided to provide his support to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

Meanwhile, it is reported that there are plans to nominate Kasun Munasinghe, who contested and won from the independent group, as the new chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha.
