Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has sentenced a monk to six months in prison for posting nude photos and videos of a married woman with whom he had an affair.
The monk who was sentenced to six months in prison is the incumbent of a temple in the Rajanganaya area. The magistrate has also ordered the monk to pay a fine of Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 100,000 as compensation to the victim.
As revealed in court, the relationship between the two was established through a mistaken phone call.
Later, while the woman and her husband were on a pilgrimage to Anuradhapura, the monk provided the couple with accommodation at the temple. The relationship that developed through that lasted for some time and they met the monk, who was dressed in civilian clothes, in hotels, at the woman’s home and at other places.
When the woman tried to end the relationship, the monk refused and it was revealed that their photos and videos were sent to her husband and relatives.
Later, the woman filed a complaint with the Computer Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, which initiated an investigation into the matter.
Investigations have also confirmed that the monk is a duly ordained monk.
