Kanthale Magistrate’s District Judge D. P. G. Sandarekha ordered the remand of a temple incumbent who was in possession of 4 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin.
The monk was arrested following a tip-off from a youth who was arrested with heroin during a surprise operation conducted by officers of the Kantale Divisional Crime Investigation Division in Bhathiyagama area. The youth had told the police that he was using heroin with the monk.
Accordingly, the police were able to find this amount of heroin when they searched the temple. Police sources say that this monk has been arrested with heroin on a previous occasion as well.
