Leader of the House, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake said in Parliament yesterday (5) that he has requested the Indian government to allow the fishing industry, which is the only livelihood of the people of the North, to continue freely.
Minister Bimal Ratnayake said that he has requested the Indian government to act according to the laws of india regarding Indian fishermen entering Sri Lankan waters and has also requested India to discuss the relevant matter with the Tamil Nadu government.
Bimal Ratnayake further said that no matter how much the Indian government helps Sri Lanka, if this help is not provided to the people of Jaffna, there is a question of whether other matters will be of real help.
The Leader of the House further said that he has requested that the only livelihood of the people of the North not be destroyed.
Participating in the debate on the expenditure head of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources, Mr. Bimal Ratnayake said that helping people does not mean distributing flood aid, but creating opportunities for people to stand on their own.
