Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament yesterday that several military, police and civil security officers were involved in recent crimes and shootings.
He informed Parliament that an army major, six military officers, a police officer and a civil security officer were among those arrested. He also revealed that 15 organized criminals suspected of aiding these activities and 15 other suspects were arrested.
“When reviewing the crimes that have occurred since September 23, we observed that some military officers were involved in these operations while still in service,” Minister Ananda Wijepala said.
He further stated in Parliament that since the current government came to power, various weapons including 7 T-56 rifles, 10 pistols, 14 revolvers, 58 12-bore guns, and 13 flintlock guns have been found.
