Migratory birds have begun arriving in Sri Lanka with the start of the bird migration season. Even now, our correspondents say that flocks of migratory birds that come to the Moneragala district during the winter season can be seen in the paddy fields and surrounding forests.
Environmentalists believe that these birds migrate from the wetlands of South Asia, the Himalayan mountain range and Southeast Asia.
They say that the forests surrounding lakes, ponds and swamps are the habitats of migratory birds, and they breed freely until they fly away in a few months.
