Medical Council ruling on unclear prescriptions.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council has issued a stern warning to all registered doctors and dentists regarding prescription writing.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council emphasizes that this warning was issued after receiving complaints from the public, especially pharmacists, regarding difficult-to-read prescriptions issued by some doctors.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council points out that unclear and difficult-to-read prescriptions have made it difficult for patients and pharmacists to identify the correct medication, and it has been identified as a threat to patient safety.

The Council further states that the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Medical Professionals contains specific instructions on how to write prescriptions, and these guidelines are essential to ensure clarity and ensure patient safety.

Considering this situation, the Medical Council has requested in its notification to strictly follow the instructions given in the chapter on writing and prescribing medicines.

The Medical Council also states that failure to strictly follow the above guidelines will be considered as medical professional misconduct and disciplinary action will be taken against the doctors.
