Former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara has filed a fundamental rights petition, making the OIC of the Trafficking and Smuggling Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, the OIC of the Criminal Investigation Department, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and several other parties as respondents.
This fundamental rights petition has been filed with the number SCFR/10/2025. The former Minister has stated that during his tenure as the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to send Sri Lankan workers to South Korea under the seasonal visa scheme. The former minister states that, following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department into a complaint filed by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau , it has been revealed that he is being maliciously and illegally arrested based on mere political rivalry, thereby violating his fundamental rights.
Accordingly, former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has requested through his petition to issue an interim order preventing his arrest by the the Criminal Investigation Department and it has been stated that the his lawyers expect to establish the facts before the Supreme Court in relation to that petition in the future.
