Mahindananda Aluthgamage remanded

Former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has been remanded in custody in connection with the importation of a substandard stock of organic fertilizer from a Chinese company in 2021.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today remanded the former minister until May 26, 2025, rejecting the pending application submitted by the former minister.

Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali issued an arrest warrant against Aluthgamage on May 16, following a request made by the Bribery Commission.

The commission alleged that the former minister was involved in facilitating the entry into the country of a ship carrying substandard fertilizer in 2021, despite concerns about its quality.
