Mahinda Rajapaksa’s security reduced despite ISIS threats

Information sources say that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has received death threats from ISIS terrorists, but the experienced military officers who were protecting him have been removed, says Manoj Gamage, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Bar Association.

He said this while speaking to the media about the withdrawal of the remaining military officers attached to Rajapaksa’s security unit by the Ministry of Public Security since December 23.

Citing a report submitted by Superintendent of Police M.S.D. Wickremesinghe to the Presidential Security Committee on October 10, 2024, he said that intelligence reports also indicate that ISIS has planned to launch a drone-based bomb attack on the former president.

He further said that there are continuing threats to the life of the former president from the LTTE organization and underworld groups.
