Mahagiridamba is dangerous. Police impose restrictions on Sri Pada pilgrimage.

The police have imposed restrictions on pilgrims coming to worship Sri Pada on the Hatton-Nallathanniya road. Accordingly, pilgrims have been allowed to travel from Nallathanniya to Sri Pada Maluwa in small groups only, an officer of the Ba Nallathanniya police told the media.

He further said that steps have been taken to limit the number of pilgrims traveling on the Hatton road considering the threat of landslides near Mahagiridamba on the road leading to Sri Pada Maha Maluwa via Nallathanniya.

He further said that due to the beginning of the pilgrimage season, only a limited number of pilgrims still travel daily, and that they have been separated into small groups and facilitated to travel to Sri Pada Maha Maluwa via Hatton road.

However, he said that even if the number of pilgrims increases, steps have been taken to divert them from the Idikatu Pana on the Nallathanniya Sripada road to the Sripada Maha Maluwa via the Ratnapura road.

He said that the area at risk of landslides is currently being repaired by the army personnel and that after the repairs are completed within another two weeks, the pilgrimage to the Sripada Maha Maluwa on the Nallathanniya road will be possible as before.
