Voting for the 2025 Local Government Elections began a few moments ago today (06). Accordingly, voting is currently being held at 13,759 polling stations across the island.
The Election Commission states that the voting will continue until 4.00 pm and counting of votes will take place at 5,783 polling stations after the voting.
To cast your vote, you can use one of the following documents to verify your identity: National Identity Card, valid passport, valid driving license, public service retirement ID card, elderly ID card, clergy/priest ID card, letter confirming information on the National Identity Card, temporary identity card issued by the Election Commission, temporary identity card issued to persons with disabilities.
Elections are scheduled to be held for 339 local government bodies, and over 17.1 million voters are eligible to vote. 75,589 candidates from political parties and independent groups are contesting this election, out of which 8,287 members are scheduled to be elected.
