President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne says that the daughter of Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, who is currently remanded, has not threatened the Bribery Commission officials in any way. In a letter to the Director General of the Commission, he states that his client, 21-year-old Ainintra Wijeratne, is remanded due to a misunderstanding or a misheard news.
He states in his letter that his client, Ainintra Wijeratne, had whispered, “I am dying,” and that the statement was not a threat to the Bribery Commission officials. Lawyer Maithri Gunaratne further states in his letter that she has made such a statement due to her mental depression.
He says that the current situation has arisen from a mishearing or misinterpretation of that statement, and that it is entirely due to misunderstanding.
The letter also states that the statement made by Ainintra Wijeratne have no connection with her mother Dr maheshi Wijerethna who is in remand custardy now.
