The Sunday Times reports that the government has nominated Sonali Samarasinghe, the wife of murdered journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga, for the post of Advisor to Sri Lanka’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
It is not clear whether she has accepted the appointment, but Foreign Ministry sources have confirmed that it has been decided to offer her the post.
The government is in the process of finalising the list of appointees for Sri Lanka’s heads of missions abroad, as many positions have been vacant since last December.
