Lal Kantha is preparing to hurt the consumer and appease the farmer next year.

Agriculture Minister K.D. Lal Kantha expressed his views in Parliament today regarding the current setback in potato and onion prices. He said that next year, a minimum control price of Rs. 150 per kilo of onion and Rs. 240 per kilo of potato will be set. Accordingly, he emphasized that opposition MPs and the consumer public should be prepared to buy a kilo of onion for Rs. 200 and a kilo of potato for Rs. 300 from now on.

He further said that agriculture in Sri Lanka had collapsed, and in a country where agriculture had collapsed, the emergence of a discussion on the price of potatoes and onions today shows that farmers have returned to cultivation activities, and accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture has successfully intervened in the problem.
