Environmentalists point out that due to the decision to construct a high-power electricity cable kine through the ecologically sensitive zone of the World Heritage Knuckles Reserve Forest, there is a risk of removing the Knuckles Forest from the World Heritage List.
This was pointed out in the environmental committee held at the Matale District Secretariat. It has been decided to draw a distance of nearly three kilometers from Rathota Maddawatta area through Riveston and if it is done, they have pointed out that the ecosystem will be damaged through this.
The environmentalist has indicated that as an alternative to that, electricity wiring can be laid underground and the money spent for that can be obtained from the Green Climate Fund.
