Joe Root completed 13,000 Test runs.

England’s Joe Root crossed the 13,000-run mark in his Test career during the only Test match against Zimbabwe in Nottingham.

Root became the fastest batsman to reach the milestone and the first and only England batsman to do so.

He reached the 13,000-run mark with a 34-run innings in England’s first innings on the second day of the four-day match yesterday (23).

Root, who had scored 12,972 runs in 152 matches before this match, was 28 runs shy of reaching the 13,000-run mark.

Root, who has now scored 13,006 runs, has scored 36 centuries and 65 half-centuries.

He is also the fifth player in the world to cross the 13,000-run mark in Test cricket.

Root is followed by Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Ricky Ponting (13,378), Jacques Kallis (13,289) and Rahul Dravid (13,288).
