Japan has provided a grant of Rs. 565 million to increase the capacity of Sri Lanka’s waste management system under the “Clean Sri Lanka” program. The signing of the relevant Memorandum of Understanding took place at the Presidential Secretariat today (03) in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sayama Akiko and Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena signed the relevant agreement.
This grant will provide 28 compactor vehicles for waste transportation to improve the waste management capacity of local government institutions, of which 14 vehicles are to be provided to the Western Province, 08 vehicles to the Eastern Province and 06 vehicles to the Northern Province.
Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sayama Akiko stated that due to the anti-corruption program being carried out by the current government, investment attraction from countries around the world is being directed towards Sri Lanka.
The Vice Minister also presented the congratulatory message from the Japanese Prime Minister to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
