Japan provides $2.5 million in emergency financial assistance

The Japanese government has taken steps to provide emergency financial assistance of $2.5 million to provide relief to the people affected by the disaster in the island.

The Japanese government has decided that the responsibility for distributing and coordinating the aid in Sri Lanka will be carried out by three international organizations: the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Special attention will be paid to the districts of Kegalle, Badulla and Kandy, which were severely affected by the disaster. Accordingly, arrangements are being made to provide kits to improve shelter facilities for 615 selected families in the districts.

Of this total grant, $1 million will be allocated through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), through which kits containing essential items, hygiene items and bedroom equipment will be distributed to the people.
