It was not an official discussion with the American Ambassador – the Election Commission

The Chairman of the Election Commission R.M.A.L Rathnatake said that the discussion held by American Ambassador Julie Chung with the Chairman of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka was not at an official level and no crucial issues were discussed there.

The visit of the American Ambassador to the Election Commission is being criticized on social media platforms as improper interference in Sri Lanka’s election activities.

“In this meeting, the election process was discussed. Apart from that, the election plans were also discussed. Nothing serious or influential was discussed in this meeting which lasted only 30 minutes. It is just a courtesy call,” Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake told the media.
