IMF boss to visit Sri Lanka to see if electricity bills are being increased

International Monetary Fund Deputy Managing Director Geetha Gopinath and Asia Regional Director Krish Srinivasan are scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next week for a special discussion to see if the Sri Lankan government will fulfill the terms of the agreement, including the increase in electricity prices, before the next meeting of the IMF’s Executive Board.

Ms. Gopinath is the IMF’s second-most senior official after the Managing Director.

It is learnt that the high-level delegation will participate in two rounds of special discussions with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the President.

It is also stated that the main objective of their visit to Sri Lanka is to know the views of Sri Lanka in these discussions regarding the implementation of an electricity price formula and the fulfillment of previously reached staff agreements.
