Iarnamadu, Kandalama, Rajanganaya and Angamuwa reservoirs overflows

All the 14 sluice gates of Kilinochchiya Paranadu Reservoir are overflowing Provincial Irrigation Director Mr. N. Sudakaran said that the reservoir will overflow today due to the havy rainfall in the area.

He warned people living in low-lying areas of canals that carry waste water to be cautious as there may be threats of flooding if the current bad weather conditions continue.

He said that this is the first time that this reservoir has been drained. He said that the main source of irrigation for agriculture in Kilinochchi, Paranthan, Punareen and several other areas in the Northern Province is the Manamadu Reservoir.

Meanwhile, Dambulla Kandalama Reservoir was spilled yesterday morning for the second time this year and the spilled water was flowing into Kalawewa through Kudtama Canal and Mirigonia Oya.

As Rajangana and Angamuwa reservoirs reached their overflow level, the floodgates of those reservoirs were opened this afternoon to release the excess water.
