Handunnetti’s speech distorted

Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetti said in Parliament today that his speech at the World Economic Forum in China has been misrepresented by certain individuals to suit their personal agendas.

Clarifying his statement, the Minister said that he had highlighted Sri Lanka’s untapped potential and existing resources to strengthen the economy.

“I saw on social media that the speech I gave at the World Economic Forum was being distorted and presented in a way that suited those people. That is what I said there. The intelligent young people of our country are going abroad. It is a crime for those we teach through free education to go abroad. It is a crisis in the Asian region itself.

Drugs from Europe are coming to our countries. We like the tourism industry, but we do not like drugs. We need to save it,” he said.
