Government unable to decide on electricity bill

Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake stated that he does not know whether the electricity tariff will be reduced or increased.

He said that the government does not have the power to reduce or increase electricity tariffs and that the Public Utilities Commission has the full right to decide electricity tariffs, and that the International Monetary Fund has instructed to set a cost-reflective price for electricity tariffs based on the current situation.

These views were expressed while participating in a program on national television.
