State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that although the ban on the import of vehicles is still in effect, the government has given permission to import only a limited number of vehicles used for the tourism sector as an emergency.
“With the exchange problem in the country, we stopped bringing vehicles. But in the tourism industry, vehicles older than 6 years are not used. Now our vehicles are getting old. The number of available vehicles is insufficient. That is why the Cabinet decided to bring 250 buses and 750 vans for the tourism industry. Only 1000 vehicles are taken.” He said.
