Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death for killing 1,400

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death by an international criminal tribunal in the country.

She was accused of committing crimes against humanity during her brutal crackdown on student protests last year.

She was sentenced for failing to take measures to prevent and punish the conflict, and ordering the use of drones, helicopters and lethal weapons to attack civilians.

She ruled Bangladesh for fifteen years, before fleeing power in 2024 amid protests. More than 1,400 people died in her crackdown on the uprising.
