The Forest Conservation Department has taken steps to suppress an attempt by a group to illegally occupy land belonging to a forest reserve located in the Pompemadu area, Vavuniya.
Explaining the facts regarding the incident, the Vavuniya District Forest Officer stated that the land in question is a ten-hectare area that was previously allocated for maintaining a military camp.
He emphasized that the military camp was recently removed and the land has since been returned to the Forest Conservation Department.
After receiving reports that a group was trying to construct fences to forcibly occupy this government land last weekend, his officers went there and removed the unauthorized constructions and thwarted that attempt, the Forest Officer said.
