Expatriate workers sent 517.4 million dollars to the country last October and 7.6 billion dollars have been received in the form of foreign remittances since last May when Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara assumed office.
Accordingly, the foreign remittance received in October of this year shows an increase of 45.63% compared to the 355.4 million US dollars received in October last year. Also, during the first ten months of this year, 4,862.5 million US dollars, i.e. 4.8 billion, have been received as foreign remittances.
In the first ten months of last year, 2,929.4 million US dollars or 2.9 billion dollars have been received as foreign remittances. Accordingly, the receipt of foreign remittances in the first ten months of this year has increased by 66% compared to the first ten months of last year.
