It has been reported that a discussion scheduled for yesterday between Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and licensed foreign employment agencies was canceled.
The Opposition Leader’s office had invited all registered foreign employment agencies to the discussion, which was to be held yesterday at 7 p.m. at the Monarch Imperial Hotel, located on Navarohala Road, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte.
Nearly 267 foreign employment agencies were invited, but fewer than 30 people attended. When the representatives who were present informed the Opposition Leader that only a very limited number of people had shown up, he decided not to attend and proceeded to cancel the event.
Kurunegala District Member of Parliament J.C. Alavathuwala had been responsible for inviting the foreign employment agencies to the discussion. According to reports, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who was angry about the failure of the event, harshly blamed MP Alavathuwala.
It is also reported that the few people who attended the discussion left, complaining about its cancellation.
Four days ago, on the 18th, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa had called for a meeting with health sector union activists and canceled the discussion that was scheduled to be held at the Colombo Convention and Exhibition Hall. Although 2,000 people were invited to that discussion, only 18 attended.
