Five profit-making state institutions remit Rs. 757 million to the treasury

Dividends of Rs. 757.4 million received from state enterprises under the Ministry of Industries have been handed over to the treasury.

The dividend was officially handed over to the Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Anil Jayantha and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Harshana Suriyapperuma in Parliament today (07).

It is stated that the institutions under the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, namely Lanka Mineral Sand, BCC Lanka Limited, National Salt Company, Lanka Phosphate Company and Lanka Kahatagaha Graphite Limited, have thus handed over a portion of the dividends received under the new government.

On behalf of Lanka Mineral Sand, the Acting Chairman of the institution, Mr. Gayan Wellala, remitted Rs. 500 million to the treasury as part of the dividends received during the last 9 months.

The Acting Chairman also stated that they are trying to reach a revenue target of Rs. 5 billion by the end of this year.

On behalf of BCC Lanka Limited, its Chairman H.A. Prasanna Indrajith donated Rs. 50 million to the treasury as part of his company’s dividends, and the special feature of this is that BCC was an institution that was scheduled to be liquidated due to continuous losses.

Similarly, this institution has so far collected fixed deposits of Rs. 105 million this year.
