Trees fell and property damages were reported in several places due to heavy rains and strong winds that lashed Colombo city and its surrounding areas this afternoon (30).
Our correspondents said that trees fell in several areas including Wijerama Mawatha, Horton Place, Maitland Place, Colombo 02, and Nine Mawatha.
Due to this, traffic on those roads has been disrupted. Meanwhile, 1,321 people belonging to 245 families have been affected in the Colombo district alone due to the bad weather that has prevailed since yesterday (29) afternoon. 5 people injured due to the heavy rain and wind conditions have been admitted to the National Hospital.
The disaster has reportedly affected 13 Divisional Secretariat Divisions including Moratuwa, Padukka, Kesbewa, Kaduwela, Homagama, Colombo, Seethawaka, Ratmalana, Thimbirigasyaya, Maharagama.
The Colombo District Secretariat said that 03 houses have been completely damaged and 239 others have been partially damaged.
Meanwhile, three fishermen from a fishing vessel that was unable to reach land due to a technical fault in the engine in the sea off the Balapitiya coast were rescued by a Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 412 helicopter this afternoon.
The Sri Lanka Air Force had launched this rescue operation on the instructions of the Defense Secretary.
